BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2025 has won the Green Award for Sustainability
Recognising outstanding achievement in sustainable live event production at this years Festival Awards.
As the event producers for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2025, we were responsible for leading and delivering the event’s sustainability strategy. The goal was clear but ambitious: to create the most sustainable outdoor music event the city has ever hosted, while setting a new benchmark for environmentally responsible music festivals and large-scale live productions.
From the earliest planning stages, we worked closely with key partners including the BBC, Hope Solutions, and Liverpool City Council. Together, we reshaped policies, built a comprehensive sustainability strategy, and embedded sustainable practices across every element of the event. From infrastructure and logistics to audience experience and supplier engagement, sustainability was at the heart of BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2025.
This approach required long-term commitment, creative problem-solving, and close collaboration across teams and stakeholders. To have that collective effort recognised with the Green Award at the Festival Awards is incredibly rewarding and a proud moment for everyone involved. The win not only celebrates what was achieved at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, but also demonstrates what’s possible when sustainability is fully integrated into live event planning and delivery.
